Drummer magazine raved about the new Stage Customs. The Stage Custom
Standard features 8-ply shells of Philippine mahogany with an outer
birch ply, constructed with Yamaha's Air Seal process. Toms groan
with tone. Bass drums are 17" deep and thunderous. YESS tom nodal
mounts are standard on rack toms, as is Yamaha's high-end ball clamp
triple tom holder. A generous hardware package includes two cymbal
stands (both boom stands), hi-hat stand, snare stand, and foot pedal.
The metal snare drum is crisp and responsive. It's a young drummer's
dream kit and a pro's "around town" gigging kit, finished
in attractive matte stains.
Mounted
Toms Equipped with YESS Mounts
Long
found on high-end drum kits like the Maple Custom, the original YESS
(Yamaha Enhanced Sustain System) mounting system is now standard equipment
on the Stage Custom drums. This rod clamp system allows attachment
of the drum to the tom holder without the need of a hole in the drum
shell for the rod to pass through. The YESS clamp is attached to the
shell at the nodal point with two bolts so as to allow the shell to
vibrate freely without degrading the shell's dynamic range and sustain.
The nodal point is the location on a shell with the least amount of
vibration allowing for the mount to have minimal affect to the resonance
of the shell.
Ball
Clamp & Triple Tom Holder
Made of super-hard resin, the ball is held firmly
in place with a steel plate and large wing bolt. While providing ease
of operation, this system also delivers total freedom in setting and
superior stability.
Steel Snare Drum
The Stage Custom Standard is equipped with a
standard size 14" x 5.5", 1.0mm steel snare drum. Delivering
a sharp response and solid tone, the snare drum's shell incorporates
a special reinforcing channel around its center for added strength.
New Hardware
Manufactured in Yamaha's own motorcycle factory,
the newly designed hardware supplied with the Stage Custom series
is made to the same specifications as their professional quality hardware.
Light in weight, this high-quality, durable hardware stands up to
rigorous play. Each part is extremely reliable and provides excellent
operation.

Maple
Custom
"You get what you pay for" is the phrase that springs to mind when looking at this kit. Each drum is beautifully finished with really nice looking small gold lugs. The toms all sound warm and have a nice ring. The positioning on this kit is well thought out, using a rotating ball in a clamp which helps get just the right position. The matching snare available with this kit is awesome, delivering a viscous crack especially when tuned tightly. Combining the bass and snare sounds remarkable. There's not really much to say against this kit apart from the fact that it's a shame it doesn't come in any more colours.

Beech
Custom Absolute
Made the same way as the Maple Custom using Yamaha's exclusive air seal system the drums are all perfectly round, of uniform thickness and have a stronger more durable shell. This kit is finished in various different polyurethane finishes including White Marine Pearl.

Birch
Custom Absolute
The only difference between this kit and the Maple Custom Absolute is the sound. It produces a lower tone than the maple with less resonance making it great for the studio. It comes in the same colours, has the same bullet shaped lugs and comes with YESS mounting on the rack and floor toms. The bass drum comes with Remo Powerstroke 3 heads and produces a warm thud with sharp decay.The toms come with Remo Ambassadors and are very responsive indeed. It has the ball clamps making easy positioning like the rest of Yamaha's kits. After a couple of minutes of careful tuning the snare sounds awesome giving a brilliant 'ear-popping' crack!

Recording
Custom
The
recording custom has 100% birch shells that give a lower tone than
maple, which in turn gives a warm, round, shorter decay sound. Each
drum comes in a high gloss lacquer exterior finish and on the inside
of each drum is finished in a hand rubbed stain. The Recording Custom
also has the Air-Seal System shell, this is where the plies of the
wood are sealed together using evenly distributed air pressure.
