How Do I Choose A Drumstick?
Having the right drumstick is very important when playing the drums. If your sticks are too heavy you could damage your wrists. The most popular stick we sell for starters is a 5A model. It is available in many different makes but we would recommend either Vic Firth or Vater. If you are young or have small hands we recommend you go for a 7A stick which is thinner and lighter than a 5A.

What Do The Different Numbers and Letters On A Drumstick Mean?
The number on a drumstick tells you the size, the higher the number the thinner the stick. eg the 7A is thinner than the 5A which is thinner than the 2B. The letters originally stood for the type of application the stick was meant to be used for. "A" meant orchestra, "S" meant street and "B" meant band. Although the letters are still used today, there are now so many different genres and styles of music that the letters have almost become un-important but as a general rule A is meant for lighter playing than B.

What Are Drumsticks Made From?
1)Hickory (Available makes: Vater, Vic Firth, Zildjian, Regal Tip)
Most drumsticks are made from hickory wood. Hickory is a dense wood and can absort a fair amount of shock which helps prevent the wrists from getting tired.

2)Maple (Available makes: Vater, Vic Firth, Zildjian, Regal Tip)
Maple is a much lighter and less dense wood than hickory. Maple sticks will not last as long as hickory but the advantage is that you can have a much fatter stick without the weight of a hickory stick. Maple sticks are generally used for lighter music for example jazz.

3)Oak (Available makes: Tama)
Oak is a very dense wood which is even more durable than hickory. The only downside is that it is heavier than hickory.

4)Carbon Fibre (Available makes: Carbosticks)
Carbon Fibre sticks are up to 8 times more durable than wooden sticks.

5)Metal
(Available makes: Ahead)
As odd as it may sound some sticks are made from metal! They have plastic sleeves and tips to prevent damaging drums heads and cymbals. They last much longer than wood sticks (typically 6 to 10 times longer). They also have 50% less shock and vibration than wood sticks.

How Much Are Drumsticks?
We sell drumsticks that start from £3.50 per pair and go up to £27 per pair.

What's The Difference Between Nylon Tips And Wood Tips?
Nylon tips produce a brighter sound than wood tips and are more durable.

What Different Sounds Do Different Shaped Tips Make?
Tip shapes are the main factor that affects the overall sound the stick will make on drums and cymbals.

1) Teardrop tips: Rich, dark tones with focused lows.
2) Barrel tips: Full punchy sound. Great for louder volume situations.
3) Ball tips: Clean, bright and articulate sound.
4) Acorn tips: Full, fat sound. Very responsive.
5) Oval tips: Broad, mid range sound due to tip length.
