Ride Cymbal
This is usually the largest and heaviest cymbal in a drummers set-up. It also plays a large part in the drummers time-keeping sound. Available sizes 18"-24" but 20" is the standard size.
Tom Tom
This is the smallest tom on the kit and is used with the other 2 toms to play fills.
Hi-Hat Cymbals
These come in pairs and are mounted on top of each other on a foot controllable stand. They are played using sticks or can be clashed together using the foot pedal. The sound can be adjusted by putting pressure on the pedal to open and close the hi-hats. They are one of the core instruments used in drumming and make up a large part of the drummers time-keeping sound. Available sizes 10"-15". 14" is the standard size.
Tom Tom
This is the middle tom on the kit and is used with the other 2 toms to play fills.
Snare Drum
Along with the bass drum this is the other main drum needed for the drummers role as a time keeper. They are usually 14" in diameter and between 5" to 61/2" deep. They have a number of wires stretched on the underside called snares which make a "snapping" sound when the drum is struck.
Bass Drum
This is the largest of all the drums and is played by the foot with a pedal. They range from 16"-26" in diameter. 22" is the standard size. Along with the snare drum this is the other main drum needed for the drummers time keeping role. The bass drum gives a low end punchy sound.
Crash Cymbal
These range in size from 13"-20" and are used to accent beats. They can also be used in the time-keeping sound. Average size is 16".
Floor Tom
This is the largest tom on the kit and is used with the other 2 toms to play fills.
